5 displaced, dog rescued after two-alarm fire in Mansfield

MANSFIELD, Mass. (WLNE) – A family is displaced after a fire ripped through their home in Mansfield, Massachusetts, Wednesday evening.
The two-alarm fire happened on Jewell Street and left a mother and four children without a house.
Mansfield Fire Chief Justin Desrosiers said two boys were home at the time the fire started.
The boys called 911 after seeing smoke coming from the backside of the house before evacuating.
“The back of the house was fully involved upon arrival,” Desrosiers said.
The fire was upped to two-alarm status due to the size of the blaze.
“When we go to a second alarm, it brings in several towns,” Desrosiers continued. “We have to do that in smaller towns to get the kind of manpower we need to fight fires of this size.”
Crews from five towns responded, and Desrosiers said it took them over half an hour to put out the blaze.
“[The fire] was difficult to put out because of the size of the house,” Desrosiers explained. “The crews did an excellent job to put the fire out.”
The family’s dog was also rescued from the home, according to Desrosiers.
Footage from ABC 6 News Anchor Alyssa Azzara shows smoke billowing from the home.
No injuries were reported, but crews deemed the house a total loss.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and The Red Cross is assisting the family, according to Desrosiers.
