5 dolphins saved after being stranded in Wellfleet

WELLFLEET, Mass. (WLNE) — Five common dolphins that were stranded on a beach in Wellfleet were rescued by members of the International Fund for Animal Welfare Saturday.

IFAW Assistant Stranding Coordinator  Jane Hoppe said that the organization was called to the beach around 6:30 p.m. for a report of seven swimming dolphins.

Hoppe added that the area, Duck Creek, is a common “mass stranding location” and that the tide was going out quickly.

Five of the dolphins were released at Herring Cove Beach in Provincetown, while two of the dolphins were dead by the time rescuers got to the area.
