5 juveniles, 2 adults arrested after altercation at Kennedy Plaza
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Five young people and two adults were arrested after an altercation at Providence’s Kennedy Plaza on Tuesday.
A large disturbance involving students and officers happened around 3 p.m.
“Providence police already on scene responded quickly, dispersed students and worked to get them on the proper buses home, whenever possible. There were five juveniles arrested for a variety of charges related to the incident. An additional two adults were arrested for disorderly conduct,” said Patricia Socarras, spokesperson for the city.
Viewer Liz Cook shared video with ABC 6 News that shows a large crowd gathering outside the Bank of America building across from Kennedy Plaza.
Cook said little fights broke out at first, but then people in the area started getting involved before more police officers arrived on scene. She described it as “complete chaos” and “frightening.”
“There were people punching each other, a lot of fights breaking out, they were spraying pepper gas at everybody,” Cook said.
“I’ve seen people toppling over each other, guys getting in a cop car, getting put in handcuffs and everything like that,” she added.
