By Sean Cahill
A three-alarm fire in a Woonsocket apartment building displaced over three dozen people Wednesday night.
Fire officials say they responded to the 38-unit building on Ascension Street at around 11:30 p.m.
Crews were able to knock down the fire after about an hour and a half but the building sustained heavy damage. Mutual aid was called in from surrounding towns to assist.
No one was injured.
The Red Cross says they estimate approximately 50 residents have been affected. They have opened up a shelter at the Crepeau Court senior housing facility on Front Street.
The exact cause of the fire is under investigation.
