$7.5 million renovations for Florence Gray Center to begin in Newport

NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — A big renovation will begin at the Florence Gray Center in Newport at 10 a.m. Tuesday morning with Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee in attendance.

The $7.5 million project will add a Community Learning Center to Florence Gray which will be part of the Learn365RI initiative.

The operation will offer services such as education, job development and health monitoring programs for both Newport and Middletown.

Newport Mayor Charles Holder, Middletown Town Councilor Dennis Turano and Newport Housing Authority Director Rhonda Mitchell will also be in attendance.

The money for the project came from the American Rescue Plan Act Coronavirus Capital Projects Funds.
