7 arrested after ‘disturbance’ in downtown Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Providence Police Department announced that seven people were arrested after a disturbance in the downtown part of the city early Monday morning.

According to police, around 2 a.m., officers patrolling in the downtown area noticed a “disturbance” outside of 79 Washington St.

When officers approached the scene, the people involved responded to them in a combative and aggressive manner, officials said.

“Despite the chaotic nature of the scene, police proceeded to arrest seven subjects for several charges including disorderly conduct, obstruction, resisting arrest and simple assault,” Providence Police Public Information Officer, Lindsay Lague said.

The nature of the disturbance was not immediately known and the identities of those in custody were not immediately released.
