NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — Seven people were displaced after a fire at a multi-family home in New Bedford on Monday.

The New Bedford Fire Department said crews responded to a basement fire at 2:14 p.m. on Earle Street.

Officials said they found flames extending up the side of the house after the fire in the basement was extinguished.

The department said crews had to peel back the siding of the house to battle the “stubborn” fire hiding in the wall voids.

Authorities said the displaced residents were assisted by the Red Cross, adding that no one was injured in the incident.

New Bedford fire investigators are working determine the cause, per officials.
