Seven Providence Firefighters sought medical treatment after battling a triple-decker fire in the city Saturday, according to Battalion Chief Jeffrey Varone. 4 people were treated for burns, 2 for shoulder injuries and another firefighter was taken as a precaution. All of the injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.
The 3 alarm fire broke out on Job St. around 6:30 PM. Flames and thick black smoke could be seen pouring out of the third story and the front part of the roof appeared to have collapsed. Varone tells ABC6 News that the fire spread quickly and high tension wires made fighting the blaze more difficult.
Residents were able to self evacuate. 10 people were displaced in the fire. They are being helped by the Red Cross.
The fire was knocked down in about an hour. A cause for the fire was not immediately given, but Varone says it does not appear to be suspicious.
