WAREHAM, MA –

Police in Wareham are investigating the murder of a 70 year old John Williams, who was found shot to death in his home on Glenn Charley Road, Tuesday. Williams was found unresponsive and bleeding from multiple gunshot wounds.

"John was just such a nice man,” said neighbor Marie Riley.  She told ABC6 that all of the neighbors were appalled.  "I’ve never seen anything like this,” she explained.

Riley said he lived alone and kept to himself, but was incredibly friendly to everyone.

"To hear that he had been shot, its just unbelievable,” added neighbor Rita Earle.

The two women said Williams was retired but worked at the Wareham Salvation Army for extra money. He used it to maintain a plane he owned at the Taunton Airport. His passion for flying was evident. His license plate read, “FlyBye.”

Riley and Earle weren’t just neighbors.  They are avid thrifters that knew Williams from the Salvation Army.

"I knew him mostly from where he worked at the Salvation Army,” explained Earle.  “He was a very pleasant guy, he would do anything for you when you needed help."

Salvation Army employees said he was loved by his coworkers and customers.  Mark Ferreira, Lieutenant of The Salvation Army Brockton ARC, said in a statement:

“John Williams was a valued employee of our Wareham Family Store for two years. He was well loved by his coworkers and our customers. He will be
missed. Our prayers are with his loved ones.”

The big question remaining for many neighbors and coworkers is why anyone would kill him.  Police are still investigating.

According to the Plymouth District Attorney’s office, there does not appear to be any threat to the general public.
