71-year-old dies after sustaining injuries at Westerly beach

WESTERLY, R.I. (WLNE) — The Westerly Police Department said a 71-year-old died at Weekapaug Inn Beach Thursday.

The department said the man suffered from facial injuries in the water and CPR was performed by lifeguards.

He was transported to Westerly Hospital and pronounced deceased.

Police added that the death is not considered a drowning and it is believed the man suffered injuries after a wave crashed on him.
