9-year-old boy pulled from water in Newport Tuesday to be taken off life support

NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — A 9-year-old boy who was pulled from the water off Easton Beach in Newport Tuesday is being taken off life support.

A city spokesman told ABC 6 News that they were informed the boy was being taken off life support Thursday.

According to a GoFundMe page, Keven Arruda got caught up in a rip current at Easton Beach Tuesday.

As of 8 p.m., nearly $8,000 was raised to help cover medical and future costs.

Newport officials said Tuesday lifeguards pulled Keven from the water and performed CPR.

He was taken to Newport Hospital and ultimately transferred to Hasbro’s Children Hospital.
