An East Providence police officer accused of domestic assault is due back in court Tuesday.
18-year-veteran of the force, Patrick Conaty, pleaded not guilty last week.
Conaty stands accused of domestic violence.
The patrolman turned himself in on July 15th on charges of simple assault stemming from an incident the day before.
According to the court documents ABC6 obtained, Conaty and the woman were involved in a considerable dating relationship during the last year.
Conaty’s lawyer is adamant that his client is innocent.
His attorney also telling ABC6 that the alleged assault took place in a public setting, but would not elaborate further.
Conaty has been with East Providence police for nearly two decades and does not have a criminal record.
Conaty has been placed on paid leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
However, we are told the police department also plans to do its own internal investigation once the criminal case has concluded.
