FBI Announces Reward For Information Leading to Missing Massachusetts Man

John Bui Tran was last seen on April 2, 2005.

Boston, MA (WLNE) – The FBI announced a $10,000 reward for information about what happened to a man who disappeared 16 years ago.

28-year-old John Bui Tran was last seen on April 2, 2005. He was attending a party on Mitchell Street in Randolph, MA. There have been no sightings of him since that day.

Tran was born in Saigon, Vietnam. He is a naturalized U.S. citizen. He lived in West Covina, CA before moving to Dorchester, MA in 2005. Tran lived on Church Street in Dorchester. He was a part-time student at Quincy College and also worked at a pet supply store in Quincy. He was frequently seen riding a bicycle and wearing a dark-colored backpack.

On Wednesday, the FBI Boston Division, the Boston Police Department and the Randolph Police Department announced a new $10,000 reward in the case. The FBI also released additional images of Tran, as well as an age-progression photo showing what he might look like at age 45, which is how old he would be now.

In a statement announcing the reward, Randolph Police Chief Anthony Marag wrote, “Sixteen years ago, John Tran vanished. Despite the passage of time, we have not given up on finding him. Together with the FBI, we are continually re-examining this case and aggressively going after every single piece of credible information that could help bring John home to his family.”

Tran’s close family friend Chien Nguyen added, “It’s very difficult knowing that John’s out there and not knowing where he’s at, or what happened to him, it’s very difficult. We need closure basically. John’s never left my mind, he’s always been in my heart, and I’ve always thought about him since all this has happened.”
