Thousands left without power after heavy rain and wind overnight

PROVIDENCE, R.I (WLNE) – A powerful storm that unleashed damaging winds and heavy rain caused thousands to lose power overnight. 

At last check, National Grid was reporting more than 30 thousand customers without power this morning, with Washington County having more than 20 thousand alone. 

Providence County has almost 8 thousand without power. 

Rain is winding down but it is expected to be very gusty throughout the remainder of the day, with a wind advisory in place until 6:00 pm.

Winds are expected to be between 40 and 50 mph.
