ProvPort has announced it won’t fill the bay following concerns related to port expansion along Allens Avenue.

Last week, Save the Bay expressed concerns regarding the second and third phases of the port-expansion plan described in a consultant’s study, plus additional concerns related to the potential takeover of a specific property owner on Allens Ave.

ProvPort’s spokesperson says after meeting with Save the Bay they reevaluated their goals to access additional land to expand, which meant filling 31 acres of the bay.

After meeting with Save the Bay, ProvPort assured Save the Bay that future phases of expansion have been abandoned and the plan they will present to voters will not involve future filling or wharfing out over the bay, but instead will be limited to land-based expansion.

They also said no state money will be used in a way that provides any economic windfall for those who violated environmental laws.
