30-year-old Fall River man killed in officer-involved shooting
Fall River police say the last officer involved shooting was in 2017.
FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE)- A 30-year-old Fall River man is dead after an officer involved shooting that happened Monday night.
The Massachusetts District Attorney’s Office says Fall River police responded to Lowell Street, regarding a call about a domestic incident that happened this weekend.
Officers spoke with the woman caller, who said 30-year-old Anthony Harden had assaulted her on Saturday at his home at 120 Melville Street.
Fall River officers then responded to the Melville Street home around 6 p.m. Monday. At about 6:05 p.m., the two officers entered the home, made contact with Harden, before a fight broke out between Harden and the two officers.
During the fight, Harden was shot and a rescue unit was called to the scene around 6:18 p.m. Harden was taken to St. Anne’s hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Both officers were taken to the hospital, as part of standard procedure, and have since been released.
A knife was recovered from the scene. The investigation is ongoing with Massachusetts State Police and the District Attorney’s office. The DA’s office did say Harden was a familiar name to local officials.
Bruce Millerick lives on Melville Street and says on Saturday he witnessed part of that dispute between Harden and the woman on Saturday.
“She pulled up and she was blowing her horn, blowing her horn, blowing her horn… I said what the heck is happening and then I saw she went up the driveway and said she wanted her things,” Millerick recalls.
The last time that there was an officer involved shooting in the city was 2017, according to Fall River Police Captain Barden Castro.
