Providence Fire Lt. passes away after battle with cancer

The Providence Fire Department is mourning the loss of one of its own.

Lt. Joseph Vinacco, 46, passed away after a 3-year battle with cancer. Officials are calling it a line of duty death.

Lt. Vinacco was posthumously promoted to Rescue Captain. He joined the department in 2001 and most recently worked on Rescue 3 in the Branch Avenue station.

Captain Vinacco leaves behind his wife and four young children, ages 13, 11, and 6.
