UPDATE: Woman killed, husband hospitalized after gas grill fire

Coventry, R.I.-   A woman has died in a fire at a mobile home in Coventry.  The fire happened early Monday evening at 5 Hide- A-Way Dr.  

Fire crews arrived after a report of a gas grill explosion. Officers on scene found the home engulfed in flames. They were able to gain access and rescue 70-year-old Joseph Sutcliffe from inside – he was sent to the hospital with serious injuries.

Crews could not locate and rescue the man’s wife, 66-year-old Pamela Sutcliffe. She was found dead inside the home after the fire was brought under control.

The gas grill was cited as the cause of the fire.

Two Coventry Police officers were transported to Kent County Hospital with smoke inhalation and were released.
