Red Sox Select Pitcher and Shortstop on Day 1 of the MLB Draft

The Red Sox had the 12th pick of the 1st round in the MLB Draft and they chose pitcher Jason Groome from Barnegat High School in Barnegat, NJ. The 17-year old Groome is 6-6, 220 pounds with a fastball that reaches 97 miles an hour.
The Sox later selected Florida Atlantic shortstop C-J Chatham with the 51st pick of the draft. Chatham is 6-4, 185 pounds. He was a first team All-American last season.
