Brendan Griffin wasn’t exactly born with a green thumb. Sunflowers represent happiness and light, but his passion to make the world a little bit better has always been a big priority in his life.

The former minor league football player from Swansea and his business partner have created what’s called The Secret Sunflower Project.

“Rather than sports, I always wanted to help the community and help people see the best in people,” said Griffin.

So far the pair has planted seeds in Boston and Rhode Island including at Rhode Island College.

Griffin is trying to get into every state and maybe countries to get people involved and plant as much as they can.

It’s a simple concept; all you have to do is log onto secretsunflowerproject.com and buy a package of seeds. The rest is up to you; to help keep the project "blooming".

Attached is a second package to give to a friend and then it’s up to them to give to another friend and ask them to buy a package and pass it on.

Other than hoping to spread happiness across the world Griffin is donating a portion of the proceeds to raise awareness for Alzheimer’s disease.

He’s hoping by the end of the summer sunflowers will be popping up all the country.
