Newport man arrested on multiple charges related to a sexual assault

Newport, RI- A Newport man was arrested early Tuesday morning on multiple charges in Newport.
Rodolpho Oliva Santos, 35, of Newport was arrested in conjunction with a sexual assault that occurred in the early hours of June 7th in a wooded area off Connell Highway in Newport. Santos was questioned and arrested after Newport Police responded to a 911 call from a woman in distress.
The victim, who has not been identified by police, had multiple scratches and refused medical treatment.
Santos was charged with Felony Assault, Felony Possession of Cocaine, and three Misdemeanors including Obstructing an Officer, Refusal to Relinquish a Telephone and Disorderly- Fighting.
Police found that Santos has used ten different aliases in the past and was on probation from an arrest on August 6, 2015 on charges of Simple Assault and Obstructing an Officer in the Execution of Duty. These charges occurred after Santos followed a female into her driveway and attempted to reach up her dress despite her attempts to scream and get away from him.
The suspect was arraigned in Tuesday in Newport District Court on Tuesday and ordered held without bail at the ACI until his next scheduled court appearance on July 28th.
