The second annual PVD fest is underway. Over the weekend, folks can look forward to street performers, make shift stages, and art displayed throughout the city.
"You never know, expect the unexpected," says Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza.
Mayor Elorza says 10% of the $400,000 festival budget will come from the city; the rest is funded through grants and corporate sponsor donations.
"People have stepped up and said yes we believe in this vision and we believe in the city," adds Mayor Elorza.
While people have a lot to look forward to this weekend, they should still anticipate busy streets and traffic.
"I think the message here is to plan ahead," says Stephanie Fortunato, director of Providence Arts, Culture and Tourism.
Starting 8 a.m. on Friday, roads will be closed down.
"Those are the side streets off of the Washington street corridor. Saturday morning starting at 5 am we’ll be shutting down Washington Street from Empire all the way up to Kennedy plaza, as well as West Minster Street," says Fortunato.
RIPTA announcing, Saturday, they will detour all routes in providence and reroute all Kennedy plaza bus stops will be temporarily relocated to Empire Street.
