Governor McKee names appointee for Judicial Nominating Commission

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)- Governor McKee announced Jason C. Preciphs for the Judicial Nominating Commission.

“I’m pleased to appoint Jason to the Judicial Nominating Commission,” said Governor Dan McKee.  “The JNC plays a critical role in recommending qualified candidates to the bench and I know Jason will bring a unique perspective and lived experience to this role. I thank the Speaker for this recommendation.

“I am proud the Governor has chosen an excellent candidate, Jason Preciphs, who I recommended as my first appointment to the Judicial Nominating Commission,” said House Speaker K. Joseph Shekarchi. “Jason has strong credentials as a practicing attorney at a leading law firm, and he will bring an essential diversity viewpoint to the JNC.”

According to the State of Rhode Island Judicial Nominating Commission website, the commission is there to screen applicants for various vacancies along the Rhode Island court’s. They advertise vacancies and from there interview, and seek public comment, and conducts background checks. With that information they vote and submit to the Governor a list of high quality candidates.
