Preparations in place for troublesome weather patterns
PROVIDENC, R.I. (WLNE)- Winds tonight have peaked to 45 miles per hour, and will continue throughout the evening. As winter conditions grow closer, communities urge their members to prepare for the effects of inclement weather.
“Were at the beginning of the winter season, so if you have a wood stove that hasn’t been cleaned, now is the time to get that cleaned,” said Emergency Manager Todd Manni. He continues, “If you haven’t prepared your vehicle for severe weather, now is the time to do it.”
Manni encourages families and individuals to have a gameplan when storms inevitably roll through.
Manni explains, “Spending time now with your family putting together the emergency kit, but also discussing what do we do if the power goes out and we have no heat? What are the other alternatives that we have in our home?”
The town of Smithfield plans to work with other surrounding communities amongst the impacts of winter weather.
“What determines whether or not we have a huge impact or a small impact from it is really based on our emergency procedures,” Manni concluded.
Manni urges all who face harsh conditions this winter to stay in touch with their community’s social media, as well as announcements from local leaders.
