More thefts at Cumberland Town Hall

The Cumberland Town Hall is no stranger to thefts these days.
Chief of Staff George Stansfield points to where eight custom-made copper rain gutters used to be.
"It would’ve been running off down at the base…basically they took the downspout from the ground level and pulled it off at the seam."
Now, rain becomes a big problem.
"It collects against the building…it’s an old building we end up getting seepage on the basement level."
The spouts were stolen early last week and most likely scrapped for metal, but whatever the thieves got is far less than what it’s going to cost to replace them.
"They probably thought they were gonna get more than it actually ended up being."
Now on a nice spring day, people that work here would be outside having lunch at the picnic tables…but those were stolen months ago. That’s when the town started contemplating security cameras.
"During the planning we were looking at cameras, that’s then the downspouts were taken so that pretty much solidified the decision to get cameras on the outside."
They’re not sure yet how much it will cost to replace the downspouts, but luckily the town’s insurer is covering it.
They won’t replace any of the stolen items until the cameras are installed, hopefully by next week.
