Bristol, RI –   ABC6 held its Best of Class event Tuesday at Roger Williams University.

The event honored the top students from all across the state and parts of Southeastern Mass. Over 50 valedictorians joined us on the beautiful Bristol campus.

Over the next few weeks you’ll be seeing promotions of these students on ABC6 and on ABC6.com, as well as, our ABC6 YouTube page.

We thought it would be fun to speak with these future leaders to get their thoughts on topics in the news right now.  We had a nice chat about the race for president, transgender laws, and cell phones.

"I think if someone wants to be a girl they can be a girl If someone wants to be a boy they can be a boy. They should be able to use whatever bathroom they believe they belong in."

"It doesn’t directly affect you. You still use the bathroom you personally identify with, so why take that right away from other people.”

On the topic of cell phones the general feeling was that they are a great resource, and they have their place, but there needs to be a limit.

" I  personally think when you’re in a gathering out for lunch and everyone is on their phone I make everybody put their phones down. So I do think people spend too much time on their phones."

"I know a lot of times when my friends and I hangout and we have our phones, we will all literally tell each other to put them in a corner and actually enjoy each others’ presences."

It really was a pleasure meeting with the students today. They are best and the brightest from our area.

Skylar, Jacob and Patience are all off to Brown University in the fall.  Emma is off to U-Mass Amherst to study computer engineering.

From all of us here at ABC 6, we wish you all the best!
