3rd Ranked Brown Beats Cross-Town Rival PC Friars in Lacrosse Showdown

Brown news release…
Providence, R.I. – Senior attackman Kylor Bellistri (Potomac, MD) scored four goals and senior middy Matt Graham (Amityville, NY) registered a hat-trick to lead the third-ranked Brown men’s lacrosse team to a 16-10 win over cross-town rival Providence Tuesday evening at Stevenson-Pincince Field.
Coming off a win over #1 Yale on Saturday, Brown earned its 22nd straight win over the Friars and extended its record to 11-2 on the season, while Providence falls to 7-6 overall.
“I’m excited about our energy tonight coming off an emotional win over Yale,” said Brown head coach Lars Tiffany. “Our men played hard even though our execution wasn’t always there. Give Providence goalie Tate Boyce a lot of credit. He stopped several of our runs. Also credit Jack Kelly, who did an outstanding job in goal for our squad.”
Brown was dominant in the face-off x once again, winning 26-of-29 face-offs. Senior Will Gural (Haverford, PA) captured 16-of-19 face-offs and picked up nine ground balls, while sophomore Ted Ottens (Wilton, CT) was a perfect 10-of-10 from the face-off x.
Bellistri added an assist with his four goals, while Graham also added an assist to go with his three goals.
Junior All-American attackman Dylan Molloy (Setauket, NY), the nation’s leading scorer, was content with a feeder role, handing out five assists while scoring one goal for the Bears. Senior attackman Henry Blynn (Villanova, PA) netted two goals, while freshman Foster LeBoeuf (Beverly, MA) scored his first two career goals.
Bears All-American goalie Jack Kelly (West Islip, NY) was strong in goal, making 10 saves, while allowing just six goals in 52:44.
Providence was paced by Keenan Assaraf with three goals, while Will Mazzone netted two goals and added an assist.
Friars’ goalie Tate Boyce kept his team in the game with 17 saves while facing 50 Brown shots.
After falling behind 1-0 in the early part of the opening quarter, Brown took control of the game and grabbed the lead for good following goals by Bellistri, senior Brendan Caputo (Westbury, NY) and Graham to go up 3-1 with 13:50 left in the second quarter.
The Bears held a 6-3 lead at the half and led 10-5 after a Bellistri goal with 2:20 left in the third quarter.
A two-minute non-releasable penalty to Providence led to three extra man goals to close the third quarter, including goals by Graham, Molloy and Bellistri, giving the Bears a 13-6 advantage.
Brown travels to Ithaca, New York on Saturday, April 23, for a key Ivy matchup with Cornell at 1:00 pm. The Bears need wins over Cornell, and Dartmouth next week, to secure the outright Ivy League title. Follow all the action on the Ivy League Digital Network and ESPN3.
