A Plymouth County Deputy Sheriff is being hailed a hero. Deputy James Creed is responsible for putting an end to the blood bath in Taunton. He’s worked for the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department since 2005, but was off-duty when Tuesday night’s tragic events transpired.

Deputy Creed, a member of the K-9 unit, was out to dinner with his wife at Bertucci’s in Taunton when the suspect, Arthur DaRosa, tore through the restaurant. He stabbed a waitress and then a patron.

Creed first showed his badge in an attempt to stop him but that was unsuccessful. Creed then resorted to his personal firearm he was carrying and shot DaRosa. That single shot ended the brutal attacks.

Plymouth County Sheriff Joseph McDonald Jr. released the following statement Wednesday:

"I am proud of Deputy Creed, his heroic actions and his ability to apply his professional training and restraint in an obviously traumatic and perilous situation. I am also relieved that through his swift and deliberate response, further additional loss of life or injury to other bystanders was averted."

Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn also praised Deputy Creed, saying had the off-duty officer not been there, the number of injured or killed may have been much higher.

"He reacted in a professional but heroic manner by taking the only course of conduct that was available to him at that time. He prevented further carnage from occurring by his actions,” said Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn.

As part of standard operating procedure, Deputy Creed has been placed on administrative leave until the investigation is over.
