BRISTOL, R.I. – Many Bristolians are still sticking by former State Rep. Raymond Gallison, despite a federal probe with a prostitution link.

Gallison is known as a family man in quaint Bristol, the town where he lives and represents. He is one of a select few to have been named 4th of July Chief Marshal, the town’s highest honor. So hearing he quit office at the State House came as a shock for many. "He’s innocent in every way,” said John Amaral of Bristol. “He’s just an innocent guy. He’s just a good guy."

Bristol resident John Rego, a lawyer like Gallison, says he’s known the former representative for years. "He’s a personal friend, well-respected," he told ABC6 News, adding that he’s innocent until proven guilty: "Hopefully he’ll be vindicated of all of this."

Gallison is not facing any formal charges at this time.

Locals outside Bristol have some different thoughts. "It’s sad to hear stuff like that,” Michael Gilbert of Pawtucket said. “We depend on these people and then we find out this is how it is."

ABC6 News’ attempts to reach Gallison went unanswered, as did attempts to reach members of Bristol’s 4th of July Committee.
