President Clinton makes two campaign stops in RI

President Bill Clinton made his second visit to Rhode Island this month to drum up more support for front-runner Hillary Clinton one day before the state’s primary election.

Both stops in the state on Monday were un-announced.

Clinton’s first stop was at the Woonsocket Senior Center where he gave a short speech to the crowd of around 100.

We asked the President why it was so  important for him to visit Rhode Island one day before the election.

"First of all Hillary and I feel like we owe a lot to Rhode Island. Rhode Island voted for me twice and both times I had the second or third highest percentage of victory in the entire country. They voted for her the people of Rhode Island 8 years ago,” said Clinton.

The President told the group that it all boils down to the question of who has the best ideas and who can actually implement them.

Many who were in the crowd were very pleased with the last minute surprise.

"I think it’s amazing myself very exciting,” said Jacqueline Daigle.

Clinton’s second stop in the state was at the South Street Landing construction site in Providence.

He gave a very similar speech to the one that he gave in Woonsocket.

"I think he did a very good speech,” said one undecided voter. He said the President’s visit may impact how he decides to vote on Tuesday.

The visit comes as polls show Hillary Clinton and her rival Bernie Sanders in an incredibly tight race.

President Clinton previously campaigned for the Democratic front runner at CCRI in Warwick on April 14th. Hillary Clinton campaigned in the state this weekend as did Sanders.

Political Science Professor Jim Morone says the move to send Clinton here the day before the Primary is a big one.

"I think this is an important one to them obviously it is or they wouldn’t come back again and again,” said Morone. "When we did our poll it looked like she had a lead, she had a 9 point lead but as soon as you dive into the weeds you discover that it’s actually neck and neck."

President Clinton tells ABC 6 News he’s doing everything he can in the final hours before voters cast their ballots.

"I don’t believe in leaving anything on the floor. It’s like a basketball game you don’t want to lose in the last minute and if you need it you want to be able to win one in the last minute,” said President Clinton.
