Southcoast Health, Care New England move forward with proposed merger

Southcoast Health and Care New England have voted to move forward with the proposed merger of the two healthcare systems.
The Board Chairs for both systems made the announcement Tuesday.
They stated that Southcoast Health and Care New England have been working towards the agreement to affiliate since November and will now start carrying out their affiliation agreement and undergo the review processes in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
The new system, combined, would be a $2 billion-plus entity with eight hospitals and more than 15,000 employees spread out across Southeastern New England.
Care New England and Southcoast Health would combine under a not-for-profit parent company.
