Education officials consider removing PARCC testing graduation requirement

By: Autumn R. Hawkins
Education officials are talking about getting rid of the PARCC testing graduation requirement for students in Rhode Island.
Commissioner Ken Wagner told the Council for Elementary and Secondary Education Tuesday that he believes school districts should take more responsibility in students’ performance rather than making it a graduation requirement.
The district might be held responsible in showing results of students’ performance on the test, yet details have not been figured out.
The council is set to take about 60 days to look over the request.
A public hearing will be in the fall and if approved, it can be implemented as early as next year.
