Woonsocket middle school teacher Corey Lamoureux was arraigned on Domestic Assault and Breaking and Entering charges.

The judge released Lamoureux on personal recognizance, but his status in the Woonsocket public school system remains up in the air, leaving many parents concerned.

Jorge Diaz’s granddaughter goes to Hamlet Middle School, where Lamoureux was arrested after not turning himself in to police.

Diaz says he was surprised and alarmed to hear about the arrest. "What is happening is very awful. It shouldn’t be happening at all- especially someone who is educating our kids.”

The 47-year-old is accused of breaking into his girlfriend’s home Sunday night. The victim told police he showed up drunk.

Det. Sgt. Matthew Ryan with Woonsocket Police says, "an argument ensued inside. He took the phone from her when she tried to call police at which point she got knocked down to the floor.”

The girlfriend was not physically hurt, but certainly scared for her safety. She got her phone back and called 911. At that point Lamoureux took off.

"Again she used all her force to keep him from coming in the house and it wasn’t enough for him to force his way in."

Lamoureux has a history of domestic violence including 2 charges from March which were dismissed. Parents picking up their kids from school said educators should be held to a higher standard of behavior.

"If we cannot trust who is educating them who are we going to trust? Know what I’m saying?”

Woonsocket Police have a domestic violence advocate on staff who will work with the victim to give her the support she needs. As for Lamoureux, he was ordered to stay away and is due back in court at the end of June.
