PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Republican John Kasich will be campaigning in Rhode Island ahead of the state’s primary.

He is hosting a Town Hall at Bryant University at 11 a.m. Saturday (click here to RSVP).

Political Analyst Dr. Joe Cammarano with Providence College feels Kasich is trying to keep Donald Trump and Ted Cruz from getting enough delegates to secure the nomination, leading to a brokered convention. Right now, he is in last place.

"Rhode Island is a state that seems to lean Donald Trump but Rhode Island republicans are not exactly a conservative group, and so Kasich could do very well here," Cammarano said.

Kasich is campaigning in four of the five states voting on April 26th.
Rep. Joe Trillo (R-Warwick), Donald Trump’s honorary state chair, doesn’t think that will make much of a difference. "I think Kasich needs a miracle and I’m not sure miracles happen that often in politics," he said.

Trillo says there’s a strong possibility Trump will come to Rhode Island later this week. He announced the same thing last week, but instead Trump stayed focused on New York. "I’m hoping if he comes we could get 65 percent of the [Rhode Island republican] vote or more,” he explained. “If he doesn’t come, I think it’s doubtful we’ll hit that number."

Former President Bill Clinton stumped for his wife Hillary Clinton at CCRI in Warwick Thursday. As for the other candidates, none of them are planning a Rhode Island visit as of yet.
