Hundreds protest Verizon in Providence

Hundreds of Verizon workers  showed up for a protest and rally in Providence Friday night.

The group is among the tens of thousands of workers striking from Massachusetts to Virginia.

The workers are demanding a fair contract. Friday marked the 10th day of their strike.

Verizon is offering employees a 6.5% percent pay increase  for the life of a contract.

They’re also asking workers to pay more for health care and want to trim retirement benefits.

"The bottom line here is we didn’t even ask for a raise. We are not looking for more money I know there’s a misperception in the public that we’re just out here looking for money and that’s not the case. We want to keep jobs in the country. We want to keep jobs here in the USA,” said Verizon worker David Fontaine.

In Rhode Island alone there are around 900 workers on strike.
