Suspect leads police on chase after shooting at officers

A police chase that ended in a car crash on Route 10 early Friday morning started after it is believed the suspect fired his gun at officers.
Police say officers were performing routine patrol when they came upon a group of about 40 people outside the Aqua Lounge on Broad Street at around 12:10 a.m.
Officers observed 2 subjects fighting in the group at the CVS parking lot across the street. After dispersing the group, officers heard multiple gunshots and observed a "muzzle flash" coming in there direction from a dark colored sedan
The sedan took off and officers pursued. A chase ensued through Providence ending after the suspects vehicle crashed on Route 10 near Union Avenue.
Police say the suspect fled the vehicle and was apprehended as short time later. Police say a gun was recovered.
Police have identified the suspect as 24-year-old Larenta Draper, he appeared in court Friday. He is known to Police. Back in 2011 Draper plead guilty to felony assault, carrying a pistol without a license, and discharging a fire arm in a violent crime, which he is still currently serving probation for.
Draper was held without bail, and is due back in court June 20th.
