BARRINGTON, R.I. (WLNE)- Barrington High School is moving to distance learning until after winter break, after a threat was found in the girl’s bathroom last week.

Superintendent Michael Messore and Principal Joseph Hurley announced the move in an email to parents on Sunday afternoon.

The threat of violence, that specifically mentioned December 21, was first reported on Monday.

Barrington Police as well as Federal agencies are investigating the threat.

“As the investigation is still underway, out of an abundance of caution, we have made a decision to engage in distance learning from Monday, 12/20/21 to Wednesday, 12/22/21 at Barrington High
School,” said Principal Hurley.

The school’s counseling department will be available for any staff member, student, or family member who needs emotional support.

The department hopes to be able to safely reopen the high school on January 3.
