Dylan Molloy Scores 8 Goals in Brown Win at Penn

Brown news release…

Philadelphia, PA – With snow falling at Franklin Field, #2/3 Brown opened up an 11-1 second quarter lead and cruised to 17-6 Ivy League win over Penn behind senior All-American attackman Dylan Molloy (Setauket, NY), who exploded for eight goals.

The win sets up an Ivy League and national showdown with #1 Yale next Saturday, April 16 at Stevenson Pincince Field at 1:00 pm, in a game broadcast on the Ivy League Digital Network and ESPN3.

The Bears stayed unbeaten in the Ivy League with a 3-0 mark, 9-1 overall, while Penn falls to 2-2 in the Ivy League, 5-5 overall.

Molloy, who leads the nation in points and assists, added one assist for nine points on the day.  His eight goals tied his career high.   Senior attackmen Kylor Bellistri (Potomac, MD) and Henry Blynn (Villanova, PA) added three goals each, with Bellistri adding three assists.

Despite the Bears scoring 17 goals, senior All-American goalie Jack Kelly (West Islip, NY) may have been the difference in the game, turning in a phenomenal performance with 15 saves, many at point blank range, while giving up four goals. He sat out the game’s last 9:30.  Junior defenseman Alec Tulett (Toronto, Ontario) had a game high four ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Tyler Dunn paced the Quakers with two goals, while goalie Reed Junkin registered nine saves.

Penn struck first when Reilly Hupfeldt found the back of the net with 12:38 left in the opening quarter to give the Quakers a 1-0 lead.

But that was the last lead the Quakers would hold as the high-powered Brown offense got on track and outscored Penn, 11-0, over the next 27-minutes, led by Molloy’s four goals, to open up an 11-1 lead with 3:08 left in the half.

Also scoring for the Bears in the decisive 11-0 spurt were senior middy Matt Graham (Amityville, NY), sophomore middy Stephen Hudak (Rydal, PA), freshman Carson Song (Charlotte, NC) and Blynn and Bellistri twice each.

Simon Mathias scored for the Quakers with 1:41 remaining in the half to cut Brown’s lead to 11-2 at the half.

Brown opened up a 16-2 third quarter lead on three goals by Molloy, the last with 2:43 left in the third quarter for the 14-goal advantage. Bellistri and Blynn also scored for the Bears in the 5-0 spurt to open the second half.
