Mayor Paul Coogan cancels post inaugural dinner

FALL RIVER, MASS (WLNE) – Mayor Paul Coogan has decided to cancel the post inaugural dinner originally scheduled to take place in the 3rd Floor Cafeteria of BMC Durfee High School following the inauguration ceremony on Monday.

As of now there’s no cancellations or changes made to the inauguration ceremony, as guests will be able to remain masked throughout the duration of the event. Mayor Coogan, Tess Curran and the Board of Health are closely monitoring COVID data. Expect a decision by December 29th as to whether changes will happen to the inauguration ceremony.

The decision came after talking with the Director of Health and Human Services that believed having a sizable crowd of unmasked people at a dinner wouldn’t be in their best interest. Currently, Fall River is averaging over 100 new COVID-19 cases per day.
