March Madness is in full effect in downtown Providence. Thousands have flocked to the capital city to support their hometown squad.

"We were watching on Selection Sunday, as they announced it – we went crazy and just figured we were going no matter what."

"It was my dad’s idea. He stays on top of stuff so I said why not? Skipping school but I had to come support my team."

"It’s a 4.5 hour drive from by house, not as close as Brooklyn being from Jersey but I just didn’t want Spokane Washington. I’m glad to be on the east coast.”

That sea of green isn’t just Miami fans though, many people are heading out for St. Patrick’s Day as well. But this is just the beginning of this weekend’s events. There will be a special Slam Dunk Waterfire on Friday and two more basketball games on Saturday.

There is no drinking allowed inside the Dunkin Donuts Center but outside is a different story, creating a fun block party like atmosphere for the next few days.

"It’s beautiful, St. Pattys Day and have a few beers while I pretend I’m in college again."

But above all, hoops fans made the trek to see their hometown team win big and experience everything that is March Madness.

"Just to see everything and the road to the Final Four as well as March Madness and everything."

"For me it’s 20 years of bleeding blue and it’s a passion. An aura about it that you can’t get from any other sport in my opinion."
