#5 Brown Men’s Lacrosse Improves To 4-0 With Win Over Holy Cross

Worcester, Mass. – Senior attackman Kylor Bellistri (Potomac, MD) scored five of his career-high seven goals in the opening half to help the #5 Brown men’s lacrosse team build a 10-1 halftime lead en route to a 20-7 win over Holy Cross Tuesday afternoon.
The Bears maintained their unblemished record, improving to 4-0 overall. The Crusaders, coming off a one-goal loss to then #5 Loyola, fall to 0-6 on the season.
Brown’s starting attack of Bellistri, senior Henry Blynn (Villanova, PA) and junior All-American Dylan Molloy (Setauket, NY) accounted for 12 of Brown’s 16 goals through three quarters.
Bellistri’s seven goals came on nine shots, while adding three assists, to finish with 10 points. Blynn also had a big day with four goals and two assists.
Molloy, who led the nation in scoring a year ago, has embraced his role as playmaker, turning in a performance reminiscent of former Bears’ standout Darren Lowe ‘92, the USILA Player of the Year in 1992. Molloy distributed a career high eight assists, while scoring one goal.
Also registering multi-goal performances for the Bears were senior Bailey Tills (Denver, CO) and sophomore Owen Rogers (Babylon, NY) with two goals each.
The Bears came into the game as the nation’s top face-off team and certainly didn’t disappoint, capturing 26-of-30 face-offs overall. Senior face-off specialist Will Gural (Haverford, PA), the nation’s face-off leader, won 13-of-13 face-offs in the opening half and 17-of-17 face-offs for the game.
Senior All-American goalie Jack Kelly (West Islip, NY) made seven first half saves and 11 saves overall in three quarters of play, while allowing five goals.
Junior defenseman Alec Tulett (Toronto, Ontario) was a ground ball machine for the Bears, picking up a career high 11 ground balls.
The Crusaders were paced by Sean Wilkinson and Logan LeBlond, who scored two goals each.
Holy Cross goalie Michael Ortlieb made 16 saves before departing midway through the fourth quarter.
Brown dominated the opening quarter, getting two goals by Bellistri and another by Blynn to build a 3-1 lead. Gural won all five face-offs of the opening quarter to give the Bears a possession advantage.
The offensive onslaught continued with the Bears keeping up the pressure, scoring four straight goals in the opening 4:45 of the second quarter and out-scoring the Crusaders by a 7-0 margin in the quarter to grab a 10-1 lead at the half.
Bellistri scored three of the second quarter goals, while Molloy, Blynn, Tills, and senior Matt Graham (Amityville, NY) also found the back of the net.
Blynn and Bellistri each notched two third quarter goals, while Tills and Rogers added one each to lift the Bears to a 16-3 lead after three quarters.
Rogers, junior Brewster Warble (Bronxville, NY), sophomore Stephen Hudak (Rydal, PA) and AJ Lucchese (Sudbury, NY) all got on the scoreboard for the Bears in the final quarter.
The Bears return home on Saturday, March 12 to host Michigan at Stevenson-Pincince Field. Face-off is 1:00 pm.
