A Pawtucket man plead no contest to driving drunk with a 4-year-old child asleep in the back seat.

Police arrested 32-year-old Dana Leyland Saturday after he ran a red light on Bridge Street in West Warwick. This occurred right after the department got a call about an intoxicated driver with a child in the car.

Leyland failed a field sobriety test and was taken into custody, later failing a breathalyzer test at police headquarters.

Police say Leyland originally gave a false name to avoid arrest on three outstanding court warrants and since he did not have a valid license.

In addition to the outstanding warrants, Leyland is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol while transporting a child under the age of 13, obstructing an officer in the execution of his/her duty, and driving without a license.

Leyland was arraigned and is currently being held at the ACI.

The boy was not harmed and was returned to his mother.
