Woman taken to the hospital after driving into river in Coventry, police and fire on scene

COVENTRY, R.I. (WLNE)- A woman was taken to the hospital after she drove into the South Branch Pawtuxet River on Tuesday morning.
Crews from both the police and fire departments responded the scene off of Sandy Bottom Road at about 9:20 a.m.
Rescue officials waded through the water and were able to get the 85-year-old woman out of the car.
She was taken to Rhode Island Hospital for probable hypothermia, though she was not in any pain at the scene, police said.
The woman was driving and swerved to avoid another vehicle.
Police said they aren’t sure how the car managed to jump the embankment.
