Suspicious man caught on camera in Dartmouth

Dartmouth police are warning residents to lock their doors after someone shared a home surveillance video of a suspicious man lurking in a neighborhood in the middle of the night.

That video posted on the Dartmouth Police Department’s page, It shows a man appearing to check if a house is locked. It was recorded around 1 am on Saturday on Potter Street.

"It’s pretty scary thinking you live in a safe neighborhood. You know it makes you feel insecure,” said Jennifer Pereira.

Police tell us they are stepping up patrols in the neighborhood.

"A lot of people think that it’s not going to happen here, but as recent history has shown in Dartmouth, it happens everywhere,” said Detective Kyle Costa.

After the video was made public, police asked others to check their surveillance videos as well.

Pereira says her cameras caught some action around the same time.

"First we saw one kid running and then and then we saw three of them running from that corner to down the street,” said Pereira.

Even though police are not aware of any crime being committed, neighbors say the video has them on heightened alert.

"It’s a great neighborhood, this is kind of surprising,” said Joseph Perry. “I always keep an eye out for the neighbors we have great neighbors we watch each others property."
