Massachusetts state officials will be inspecting gas stations and ATMs for debit and credit card fraud during the week.
The Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation met with about 100 city and town weights and measures officials Wednesday, to initiate the inspections of gas pumps and ATMs across the state.
The investigation stems from several reports of devices being found on gas pumps and teller machines to steal credit and debit card information.
Two of these “skimming” devices were found on ATMs located in two Cumberland Farms stores in Attleboro back in February. Some skimming devices were also found at a TD Bank location in Foxboro, and as Rockland Trust in Seekonk earlier this year.
The local inspectors will report their findings to the state.
