A Warwick man is suspected of holding a woman against her will, and fleeing to Connecticut.

Police say the chase for 47-year-old Robert Atamian began in Foster, where he was fleeing from police. Atamian drove into Connecticut, holding Nicole Cournoyer in his car against her will. Foster Police called authorities in Plainfield, Conn. to assist in his capture.

Plainfield Police received a phone call in the early morning hours on Thursday from Cournoyer, of Providence. Cournoyer reported that she was trying to get away from Atamian. She also added that she was “scared for her life,” due to Atamian’s reckless driving, and because he refused to let her out of the car.

She fled on foot to a Staples warehouse nearby to call authorities. Police found the car stuck on nearby railroad tracks; Cournoyer reported that the car had gotten stuck, and Atamian fled on foot from there. A search of the vehicle revealed that it had been reported stolen out of Providence. Police were able to find Atamian in a wooded area near the Staples building.

Atamian was charged with larceny in the third degree by possession; unlawful restraint in the second degree; reckless endangerment in the first degree; interfering with an officer; and disorderly conduct. He will be arraigned on Thursday. Currently, his bail is set at $100,000 cash or surety bond.
