Breaking and entering caught on camera, police search for suspect

"I'm just hoping he doesn't come back."

WEST WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE)- A homeowner is calling for answers after a man was caught on camera breaking into her home Wednesday evening.

Surveillance footage obtained by ABC6 News shows an unknown man walking into a West Warwick family’s apartment around 8:30 p.m.

The breaking and entering incident happened while the family was home.

The man is shown standing in the entryway, looking around, before walking up the stairs. The homeowner says she was just feet away, on the other side of the door. She said her and her children were completely unaware of the stranger in their home.

“I didn’t even hear the door open,” the homeowner told ABC6 News. She is not being identified for fear of her family’s safety, until the man is caught.

“I was just scared and felt violated,” she told ABC6. “I’m not sure who he is, I’ve never seen him before.”

She said she was unaware of the break in, until she heard a loud bang.  The noise allegedly came from teenagers egging cars in her neighborhood.

“That’s the noise that made me look at my camera.”

She tells ABC6 News she was expecting to check the footage and see the teenagers, but was shocked to see a stranger inside of her home.

According to the homeowner, her door was unlocked for delivery drivers, who were instructed to leave packages just inside of the front door.

Now, the woman is urging neighbors to be on the lookout, lock their doors, and stay cautious.

“I’m just hoping he doesn’t come back.”

West Warwick Police confirm to ABC6 News they are investigating. Anyone with information is urged to call the Department at 401-821-4323.
