Neighbors react to deadly Woonsocket motorcycle accident

WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — Gene Lauzon lives right in front of the spot where a man died in a motorcycle accident Friday night.

“Just a horrible scene, ” Lauzon said. “Something I’m never going to be able to forget.”

Police say the motorcycle collided with a car around 9:30 near the corner of Transit and Vose streets.

“Everybody was coming out of their houses,” Lauzon said. “It sounded like an explosion but it was just crazy to come down here and see this young kid like this.”

He says some tried to help before paramedics arrived at the gruesome scene.

“He was at the corner,” Lauzon said of the victim. His sneakers were over here in front of my driveway. There was stuff scattered everywhere. The bike was in pieces. Just crazy, man. It was something you don’t see, and you don’t want to see.”

Lauzon says he’s lived here his whole life and seen multiple speeding cars and accidents on this road, but he’s never seen this.

“That’s the first time I’ve seen somebody die at this corner,” he said. “Sometimes you kind of wish that you didn’t see something like that.”

Another neighbor says she knows the victim’s family.

“It’s really upsetting that that would happen to somebody who was kind and caring,” said Alana Ryan. “We’re so sorry this happened, and we’ll send prayers up there.”

Lauzon says he’s also thinking of the victim’s loved ones.

“I hope the family can find some kind of peace,” he said. “It’s not going to happen overnight.”

The driver of the car was not injured. Police are still investigating.
