Newport teen charged with making bomb threats throughout RI

A Newport teen has been arrested in connection to bomb threats around Rhode Island over the past several months.  

State Police say the 16-year-old male Rogers High School student was charged with 15 counts of make bomb threats. He was also charged with two counts of extortion and blackmail and one count of access to a computer for fraudulent purposes. 

Threats were made in Providence, Bristol, Warwick, East Providence, Cranston, and Tiverton. Threats were also made to schools in Newport and Middletown earlier in February.

The teen was arrested and arraigned on February 12th. He was held at the Rhode Island Training School and will appear in Family Court for a bail hearing on Wednesday.
