EXETER, R.I. (WLNE)- Metcalf Elementary School is closed Tuesday, due to COVID-19 related staffing shortages.
“We will be re-deploying available substitutes, and offering Metcalf teacher assistants an opportunity for an extra day of pay to work in another building tomorrow. This strategy will allow us to keep the majority of our buildings open with a safe level of staffing for in-person learning,” says James Erinakes, Superintendent of Metcalf.
The elementary school will not shift to distance learning, but instead add a day to the calendar in June.
I will be evaluating staffing each day over the next couple of weeks, and closing (hopefully) only one building at a time (on a rotating basis, as appropriate) so that we can take advantage of some creative staff reassignments and maintain an optimal level of in-person learning,” Erinake says.
